Grande ‘Boom’ da Música G.o.s.p.e.l/The Great Boom of Gospel Music

A influência africana

O Gospel no Brasil

A influência do neopentecostalismo

In English

Gospel (a corruption of God - God and spell - Word) was originally the Gospel message in the form of music. The gospel song is the musical expression of the new evangelicals. It differs from spirituals because his lyrics speak of the joy of salvation and heavenly home with innovative rhythms. Its origin is white, not black, as many think. The rocker Elvis Presley, who would, out of an evangelical church choir. Similarly, Whitney Houston, Areta Franklin, Mahalia Jackson and Marvin Gaye. Corals are Protestant churches that many popular singers left, taking the excitement to the dance floors and nightclubs.Gospel music today is not the same original. With varied rhythms - through the romantic, pop, swing, country, charm, timbales, reggae, funk, rap, hip-hop - has attracted a significant number of young people identified with this new "garment." It is the great "boom" of marketing and sales.Singers making style "pop star", in plain language, without orthodox rules seek to carry the message of Jesus to those who never enter a church. "Raising the flag" of Jesus Christ, several sets of young evangelicals drew crowds to their shows, demonstrating the attraction exerted on them. The American singer Amy Grant won a Grammy Award (the Oscars of the music) and broke sales records. His first album sold 4.5 million copies and stayed 52 weeks in the charts. His House of Love album sold one million copies in 43 weeks. The choir of Mount Moriah Baptist Church (Harlem, New York), which was recently in Brazil, mixes the modern with the primitive gospel. Composed of 56 singers, whose ages range from 8 to 87 years, has, between singers 'traditional' young soloists playing with faith, emotion and joy of this song ravishing beauty.
History
After the Protestant Reformation, which occurred in Europe, began the great persecution of the Church of Rome to those who have assimilated the ideas of reform. Leaving the luxury and comfort of the Old World, the "Protestants" took refuge in a mysterious new continent, living rough and primitive. The music was almost nonexistent in this context. At the end of the seventeenth century, ships carrying lutes, spinets, violins, oboes and flajolés to soften the "vacuum" on the leisure of the owners of "plantations".The settlers, far from their homeland, they sang ballads in the form of madrigals or Psalms, providing moments of joy and relaxation to your life boring and lonely. The music, in their view, was a gift from God, sanctified by its use in worship.Meanwhile, in England, classical music, madrigals, arias and ballads were in full swing. The authors of that time were very demanding on versification and metrics of the melodies of the Psalms.
New World
In the New World were founded singing schools, which maintained the reformist zeal - the first to influence American music.Teachers divided their efforts between different communities, they were few. Took with his book of songs and your crotch, from village to village.Emerged corals of Baptist churches, whose songs - spirituals - were strictly based on Bíblia.Willian Billing (1746 - 1800) was a self-taught musician and most respected singing teachers. Born in Boston, a tanner by trade, published a collection of psalms and hymns of his own.
The African influence
The work in the field - plantation - was hard. The black African slaves in the southern estates, were evangelized and embraced the faith in the Lord Jesus identified himself with the suffering of the people of Israel, who had been slaves in Egypt.Cadence work through songs, answering questions asked by the foreman watched. This method was appreciated by the owners, as rationalized work, ensuring the smooth running of production. The singing of a slave was lonely something amazing: a spontaneous cry of joy, overwhelmed, long and high-sounding, breaking down sometimes in falsetto, as it echoed a trumpet blast. He took the name of hollers. This feature belonged to Southern blacks, an inheritance from their African ancestors, and set the spirituals, blues and jazz."Blacks sing working plantation. I claim: there is more joy and happiness to live among the clouds without slaves of the South than in any other industrious population of the globe, "said Congressman Daniel C. In Jarnette, returning from a trip to the southern plantations in 1860 (excerpted from the Blues, Gérard Herzhaft).
"Nigro spirituals" were the collective chants of slaves, inspired by the hymns sung in church, where they expressed their feelings (pain, misery and resignation) with creativity and improvisation that is properly theirs.
Changes
In 1870, the white pastors Dwight Lyman and David Sankey, revolutionized the music of the churches, which mostly conveyed fear and punishment of sinners with eternal fire. Turned posts in cheerful, vigorous and encouraging. The pioneer William Bradbury ended the anonymity of the authors of World War spirituals.A gospel song experienced a decline during the First World War Mundial.Com the war, the world reflected on the long-sought quest for peace. In this context, the gospel song resurfaced, now entering the radio and TV, records and megashows Hollywood.
The Gospel in Brazil
The first gospel recording in Brazil dates from 1901, by Joseph D'Araújo Coutinho Jr. In 1916 and 1917, the choir of the Evangelical Church hymns on Fluminense recorded six albums.
Today, the "gospel charts" are the bands New Sound, Kadosh, High Praises, and the Cathedral Band and Voice. The singers Ed Wilson, Nelson Silva, Robby, Charlie Felix, John Mark, Sergio Lopez, Melissa, Natalie Grant, Denise Cerqueira, Leonor, Marina de Oliveira and many other features in major concert halls, with seating esgotada.Gospel in country, covering all musical styles, from the letter refers to the Gospel. Gospel "true", there is nothing but the Word of God.
Christian Music
In the United States was a new classification, Christian Music, which accounts for an annual turnover of U.S. $ 750 million.
His singers, is embarking on the path of greed and vanity, have become mere professionals, which in no way different from secular singers. Desiring to "make a career," engage with the movement in order to participate in a share of the market in frank expansion.
With the proposed "do to win the crazy fools," instruments "high-tech," the gospel shows current blockbusters are true "a la Broadway."
The influence of neo-Pentecostalism
With the growth of neo-Pentecostal churches and their penetration in the media, the gospel has been most widely recognized and even among non-evangelical. The souvenir business has grown evangelical "ride" in this movement.
Interviews
Conductor Ricardo Taucuchian - president of the Brazilian Academy of Music, composer, conductor, and doctorate from University of Southern California - The gospel is a great event which is taking shape in our century, characterized by the particular way of singing, because the singer uses the emotion and expression corporal.Nos United States, where I lived for five years, I saw many great influx of gospel festivals popular, being televised. In the U.S. west coast was an extraordinary success since its connection with the Rhythm and Blues, Jazz, Soul Music and the like give Africa a special character all the gospel.Um technical detail is that the traditional European music, the Baroque here, until the beginning of this century, is based on a system called classic tone, that is, the songs are composed in C major or C minor, D major or D minor. Enriched by the African culture and transported to the U.S., suffer change of notes, which is technically called "blue notes". Hence arose the expression blue, meaning nostalgic for the feeling, the conductor explains.
Carlos Cruz, conductor, writer and musical director - Movement gospel music is an art form where the rhythms can be used with the word religion. The gospel is not a pace, he says.
